Estimates of the number of deaths in the United States resulting from preventable medical error range from 250,000 to 440,000 annually. Injuries run into the millions. It has become increasing important to pay attention to a hospital's safety record rather than just picking the closest hospital. Hospitals report a number of metrics, some safety related, to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS makes this data available to the public on its Hospital Compare website. Ashbec LLC has taken a subset of that data that excludes opinions and survey data. The selected data includes only observable measures related to mortality rates and treatment complications. This data is then used to create a national percentile ranking of every US based hospital that has reported a sufficient number of performance measures. Rankings are included for overall, cardiac, orthopedic and pulmonary care. This app will allow you to find the safest hospitals near you or perhaps near the address of someone dear to you. There is no charge for the app. Updates to the underlying data are also provided free of charge. Be happy and safe.
