atomic theory is brought to life in "Atoms in Motion". Version 2.5 supports retina
display and can be upgraded with an in-app purchase to the full version of Atoms in
In this simulation you control the atoms! "Atoms in Motion" is a fully interactive
atomistic simulation that uses sophisticated Molecular Dynamics (MD) algorithms
to perform computational chemistry calculations right on your iPad. Such
computational simulations reveal the motions of atoms as they attract, repel, and
interact with one another to form unique structures and states of matter.
"Atoms in Motion" is the ideal App to discover and interact with the physics of
chemistry and materials. With the tap of a finger you can easily add, delete, or
highlight atoms within the simulation. With a gentle touch you can move, place, or
even throw atoms. With the swipe of a finger you can control the temperature and
explore the states-of-matter (solids, liquids, and gases). Uncover the physics behind
the ideal gas laws, and perform your own experiments by changing the volume,
the number of atoms in the simulation, or the temperature. Now as you build and
create experiments, you can easily save, manage, and organized them from within
The student edition of "Atoms in Motion" uses the same interactive 2-D Molecular
Dynamics (MD) simulation as the original, but is limited to 100 neon (Ne) atoms.
The Van der Waals forces are computed using a Lennard Jones 6-12 potential,
and the simulation continuously computes the pressure. Users can vary the
temperature from near absolute zero to over 500K, and add up to 100 neon atoms
to the simulation.
"There is nothing that living things do that cannot be understood from the point of
view that they are made of atoms acting according to the laws of physics"
- Richard P. Feynman
