Humans are social animals. Current day virtual social networks have got this wrong. The so-called virtual social networks pivot around individuals, which has in turn resulted in anti-social behavior; because the communication is almost always unidirectional. We either express, with a pseudo feeling of being heard, or we perceive, from our interpretation of what is being said. There is exchange of information, but no verification if the message went through.
It is good to be in touch with people you know, or even to meet people online. World has become a global village, and rightly so, and so we need to be aware of happenings around the world.
But instead of relying on conglomerates to inform us of what is happening around us, when we the source of an event should also be the source of information. The age old word-of-mouth approach should empower each one of us, and should put us all on the same dice over the internet, which is how it was always meant to be.
A word-of-mouth information feed, with the ability for people in the immediate vicinity, to rate for the veracity of the information should be the most organic source of information. Journalism had its field day, now we need something truly empowering.
