avenged Sevenfold (often also written A7X) is a United States rock hard rock group formed in 1999. The band is from Huntington Beach, California. The current Avenged Sevenfold members consist of M. Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ, and Brooks Wackerman.
The band is known for the Metalcore genre on their debut Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, which contains many scream vocals. The band changed their style on their third album, City of Evil, featuring melodic vocals and power ballads. The band continued to explore new sounds by releasing the entitled Avenged Sevenfold and enjoying success before their drummer, James "The Rev" Owen Sullivan, died of heart disease due to the combined effects of drugs and alcohol on his body in 2009. Although the drummer was dead, the band is continuing with the help of former Avenged Sevenfold drummer Mike Portnoy to release and tour in support of Nightmare, their fifth album in 2010 which became the top album on the Billboard 200. Lately, their sixth album, Hail to the King became the number one album in various countries, such as the United States, Finland, Brazil, and Ireland.
To date, Avenged Sevenfold has released six studio albums, one live album, compilation, DVD, and eighteen singles and sold over 8 million albums worldwide.
