The book of Proverbs displays a collection of wise sayings mainly by King Solomon, known as the wisest King who was given the gift of wisdom when he dreamt of God.

But there are also other writers in this book like Lemuel and Agur, and some of the contents are parables and poetry. According to the book of Proverbs, the beginning of wisdom is through fear of the Lord (Prov. 9:10). The main purpose of this book is believed to be teaching the people of God about living wisely and righteously through fear of the Lord. Believers can learn a lot from this book especially when it comes to moral standards and a godly lifestyle. There are also encouragements, as well as warnings and instructions that you can find in this book.
The chapters of the book of Proverbs are summarized into three divisions:
• Chapter 1 – 9 is addressed to the youth and Solomon writes on how to acquire wisdom through listening to your parent’s advice and on following a godly path.

• Chapter 10 – 24 shows the contrast between a wise person and foolish person, between good and evil which is addressed to generally all people seeking wisdom and a godly lifestyle.


• Chapter 25 – 31 is addressed for leaders regarding wisdom, warnings and instructions that would benefit in leading people to a godly lifestyle.
