Still with a piston-faced design, Pinnacle Engines was founded by Monty Cleeves in August 2007 in America with the drive to make a more efficient fuel engine. The engine developed is a machine with high compression ratio, four steps, spark-ignited (SI), opposed-piston, and valve sleeve-valve engine. This machine is able to produce indicated specific fuel consumption (ISFC) between 30-60% at low load and 12-30% in medium load compared to conventional poppet-valve valve technology. However, there is no ISFC improvement at high load. There are two configurations in this machine design, fixed geometry versions with lower features for emerging market targets, and variable variable compression ratio (VCR) variable valve train (VVT); External EGR; turbocharger; direct injection) for more sophisticated multi-cylinder applications in automotive .
Some interesting ideas that try to be developed for combustion engines are increasing the ratio of surface area to the combustion volume, increasing the compression ratio, decreasing the mileage and piston speed, reducing the moving parts, reducing the combustion duration, increasing the volumetric efficiency with the turbocharger or supercharger, using the system injection and geometry variables that adjust to the conditions continue to be applied in the hope to increase engine efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions. These ideas are not all new, some have been applied in conventional machines such as injection systems, geometry variables, turbochargers and superchargers. The design of the above machines is still largely in the stage of development, testing and preparation stage of mass production, so that we can commercially see the fastest in the next 2-5 years.
