Known as the beauty mecca of the world, Korea is often lightyears ahead of other countries in terms of beauty trends. From the ubiquitous BB cream to convenient sheet face masks, Korea has been consistently churning out beauty hits.

One trend in particular, the korean lipstick tutorials gradient lip, has recently made its way to the Western part of the world. Often called “cherry lips” in Asia, the Korean gradient lip is a slightly more subtle version of the ombre lips that Westerners are familiar with.

The overall effect is one that shaves many years off your actual age.

Many online tutorials encourage the use of concealer or a nude lipstick to cover up your natural lip color, then smudge a bit of lip stick or lip tint in the inner part of your lips to give that just-sucked-on-a-lollipop look. However, as a lazy girl, I often do away with the concealer and just apply lip tint in the inner part of my lips, then press my lips together to smudge out the tint. Apparently, that’s the method of choice for many sleep-deprived, busy students in Korea too!

This look can draw attention to a more dramatic eye, create a natural makeup look, and also play down overly plump lips for those who are self-conscious about it.

Many celebrities in korean lipstick tutorials are fond of this look and wear it both on and off-screen. Taking advantage of this trend, many Youtubers, such as Pony (Park Hye Min), have created video tutorials on how to achieve this look. Oh, Pony was also an “ulzzang” back in the early 2000s!
