The statue is a three-dimensional object of human works that is acknowledged specifically as a work of art. The person who created the statue is called a sculptor. The purpose of creating a statue is to produce works of art that can last as long as possible. Therefore, sculptures are usually made using durable and often expensive materials, especially of bronze and stone such as marble, limestone, and granite. Sometimes, although very rare, are used also valuable materials such as gold, silver, jade, and ivory. More general and less expensive materials are used for more outdoor purposes, including wood, ceramics, and metals.

In the past the statue was used as an idol, a symbol of God or a God worshiped. But along with the more rational way of thinking humans, then the statue is no longer used as an idol but only as a mere art. The phenomenon of idolatry of this statue occurs in religions or beliefs that polytheism as happened in Arabia before the emergence of the divine religion. See also statues.
