The idea to build The Dunes Golf & Beach Club was formed in 1947 by Myrtle Beach area businessmen. Designed by famed architect Robert Trent Jones, The Dunes is considered by many to be his finest work, incorporating many of his favorite design features. In 2013, the Dunes Club underwent an extensive renovation project under the watchful eye of the "Open Doctor" Rees Jones. The renovations will be tested when the PGA of America brings 312 of the nation's top professionals to the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship contested at Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
