The Dunstane Houses are spread between two Victorian houses on opposite sides of the road (as we call them, Dunstane House and Hampton House), a few minutes from Edinburgh Haymarket station and just down the road from Murrayfield. We’re a family-run affair and our roots are actually in Orkney – we like to think this comes across in the style, service and atmosphere you find throughout. You’ll discover traces of Scottish and Orcadian heritage in our artworks, our furnishings, our food and the warmth of our welcome (and, naturally, in our vintage whisky cabinet). Period details, original artworks and vintage Orkney artefacts sit seamlessly alongside Smart TVs with films and catch-up on demand, Nespresso coffeemakers, hand-crafted – and supremely comfortable – pocket-sprung Vispring beds with hand-made Scottish duck-down duvets, and state-of-the-art bathrooms. The heart of Dunstane is the Ba’ Bar in Dunstane House, our newly opened drinking and dining space, and our affectionate homage to the Kirkwall Ba’ (which, if you’ve never heard of it, is a bi-annual Orkney event somewhere between a mass rugby game and an affectionate town riot). A relaxed and welcoming lounge with a neoclassical members’ club vibe, the Ba Bar is open for food and drink from early in the morning to late at night – and when it comes to nightcaps, our selection of rare and specialist whiskies and craft Scottish gins is second to none.
