Al-Afasy's full name is Shaikh Mishary Rashid Ghareeb Mohammed Rashid Al-Afasy is a munsyid, hafiz and Kuwaiti nationalist imam. He studied Quran at the College of the Holy Quran at the Islamic University of Medina (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). He has read the Quran for Sheikh Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Zaiat, Sheikh Ibrahim Ali Shahata Al-Samanodei, and Sheikh Radwan Abdurarea. He impressed a number of large reciters of the Quran with his reading Mishary Al Afasy is the Imam of the Grand Mosque (Kuwait), and every Ramadan he leads Taraweh Prayers at this Mosque. He very often leads Tarawih prayers in the UAE and other neighboring countries in the Gulf In 2007, he visited two mosques in the United States: the Irvine Islamic Center (ICOI) in California and the Detroit Islamic Center (ICD) in Michigan.
